What is Nation?

 Concept of Nation

The two Latin words "Natio" and "Natus" give rise to the English words "Nation" and "Nationality". The Latin word "Natus" literally means 'Birth'. Therefore, in the etymological sense, nation means a population of the same descent. But now the word 'race' is no longer used in the etymological sense; Rather it is used in a special sense. It is difficult to say in one word what is meant by race.

Commenting on this, political scientist Professor Lasky said that it is not easy to define a nation. Because, he can be identified on the basis of any external element No. '

According to the French philosopher Annette Renan, 'Race is not created on the basis of language or biology. Nation is the embodiment of a spiritual principle.'

In defining a nation, Burgess mentions that a nation is a people of the same descent in which geographical unity exists.

R. N. Gilchrist (R. N. Gilchrist) said, 'The nation is more than a state; The state must be seen from a particular point of view.' For example, the nation is a well-organized society within the state. Stalin said that the nation is a historically developed permanent society whose language, habitat, economic life and mental structure are identical and expressed through a common culture.

"A nation refers to a people who are united by the same lineage and the same linguistic unity," says Leacock.

In his book "The Modern State", McIver (R.M. Maclver) writes that, 'The nation is the result of historical circumstances, supported by the spiritual consciousness and the attitude of the people determined to live together, who are interested in drafting a general constitution for themselves.'

Lord Bryce, in his book "Impression of South Africa", stated that the nation is a people free or liberated from politically organized regimes. There is a strong political consciousness in the nation. To put it more clearly, a national society becomes a nation by achieving full unity and sovereign independence.

From this point of view, every independent state in the world today is a nation. Because the idea of the present state is the idea of the nation state. In modern times, a nation is a group of people who are organized on the basis of common sense. And this sense of unity is so strong that they want to live in unity and are dissatisfied when they are separated.

So a nation is a group of people who live in a certain geographical area and who have hereditary, linguistic, racial, cultural and cultural, economic and political unity.
